It's all about having fun.
Sandy Bay's focus is on participation and having fun - no matter what your ability you can join our Club!
We can help you improve and achieve your potential. You don't have to be the fastest or strongest out there. You just need to love your athletics.
"Senior" Athletics is fun! Perhaps you you did athletics at school or have been a Little Athlete... or perhaps you're completely new to the sport. Regardless, we'd love to meet you.
Athletics is for all the family!
Unlike some other sports, athletics is truly family-oriented - entire families are welcome to get involved at any level - by competing, officiating, training, coaching or simply by cheering from the sidelines. And it doesn't matter how fast or strong you are.
In Track & Field, you compete against people of a similar grade (Men / Women) or standard to yourself. It's more about personal improvement than winning.
Cross Country is great for all the family - some people prefer to make it a social event, whilst others enjoy the competition. It's all up to you :-)
News & Rantings
[View past stories]Australian Indoor Record 800m - 1:47.48 (29/1/2010)
Posted by chris in Club Happenings.
Sandy Bay's Ryan Foster breaks the Australian & Oceania Indoor record set in 1969 by R Doubell. In doing so he also breaks the Meet, Track, University Records at Penn State, USA. This time is also a B qualifier for Commonwealth Games and qualifies for the World Indoor Championships in Qatar next month. In two weeks he is going to Seattle, USA to attempt to break the 4 minute mile. He would be the first Tasmania to do this.
Well Done Ryan, and good luck for your upcoming races.

Bronze for Thomas in the 4x400m (24/8/2009)
Posted by ian in Club Happenings.
One week on from his semi-final run in the 400m hurdles, Tristan Thomas has displayed blistering speed and great courage as a member of the bronze medal winning Australian 4x400m relay quartet.
The disqualification of the Bahamas left the battle for the minor placings behind the United States wide open, and Australia didn't waste the opportunity. A gutsy third leg run from Thomas all but ensured the young team a medal, Thomas' raw speed showing that he is capable of achieving great performances over the hurdles in the years to come.

Thomas Triumphs at World University Games (12/7/2009)
Posted by ian in Club Happenings.
With a little under a month remaining until his debut world championships appearance, Tristan Thomas has confirmed that he is capable of performing consistently at the highest level, winning a gold medal at the World University Games.
Outclassing the rest of the field, Tristan Thomas took first place in his speciality event, the 400m hurdles. His time, 48.75 seconds, was just outside the personal best and Tasmanian record he set two months ago in Osaka, and over a second faster than his nearest competitor.
Foster again under 1:48 (14/6/09)
Posted by ian in Club Happenings.
Ryan Foster has backed up from his outstanding efforts in the earlier rounds to take 8th place in the Final of the 800m at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, again dipping under 1:48 with a time of 1:47.81.
Foster showed guts, repeating his fast starting strategy against a strong field. Although finding himself several places back with 500m to go, a determined effort had him placed second coming into the home straight. However, despite a strong last 100m, Foster was unable to hold his position as he was passed by his more experienced competitors, with Thursday's semi final effort perhaps taking its toll.
Foster is now ranked as the fastest Australian over 800m in 2009, and has lowered the club's 800m record by almost a second.
Foster through to Final - 1:46.78 (12/6/09)
Posted by ian in Club Happenings.
Ryan Foster has backed up from yesterday's personal best run to qualify second fastest for the Men's 800m Final at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Again taking the first lap out hard in fifty one seconds, Foster held it together to finish a clear second behind US Olympian Andrew Wheating, this time in an unbelievable personal best time of 1:46.78.
The final will be held Saturday at 12.28pm ET (That's 3.28am Sunday morning, so be sure to set your alarm clocks everyone!).
