Sandy Bay Harriers Club Newsletter January 2005

Welcome to the Sandy Bay Harriers Newsletter as we are halfway into the summer season. Please if you have anything that you feel could be in the newsletter, for example, an upcoming event or anything to do with a personal achievement.

If you set a Club record please notify a committee member and there is also a form on the Website that can be downloaded, after filling this out the form, it must be forwarded to Jo Cherry.

SBHC Website - Please view the site on www.sandybayharriers.org.au which has been upgraded to include news on athletes resources, the committee, the latest results, pictures, information about the club and the coach's corner with tips from Max.

Most importantly the Website includes the new Mailing list where you can now receive up to date information, and news of upcoming events via your own email. Please register as soon as possible. If you do not have an email address or access to a computer and would like to receive the newsletter please notify Dean Foley (62450525) or Kim Dutkowski (62238495) so this information can be passed onto you.

Membership: For parents, partners or anyone else who may have an interest in our club. Associate membership entities you to receive our Newsletter throughout the year as well as voting rights at the AGM. The cost is just $10. If you are interested please speak to any of the Committee members.

Car Rally: Thanks to all who contributed and participated in the Car Rally, this event was a great fund raiser for the club and an enjoyable night was had by all.

Mud Cakes: This also was a great fundraiser for the clubs, thankyou to all who sold and bought the Mud cakes.

Taste of Tasmania: Thankyou to all who volunteered over the period of the Taste, this is an important opportunity for the club and we look forward to next year where it is hoped more athletes put your name forward to be a volunteer.

Upcoming Events

IMPORTANT:North West Athletic Club / Sandy Bay combined annual Gala Day Saturday 5th February. As a Club we would like to see as many Club members as possible Participate in this event to be held up the coast. Information regarding Buses, Cost etc will be provided ASAP provided numbers are viable. If you haven't received information on this please see Damian Lawler, Dean Foley or Max Cherry ASAP.

Bill Dunn / Laura Triffett Handicaps 400m. To be held on Tues 22 Feb with a 6.00 pm start. Please see Lewis Powell, Cassandra Smith, Dean Foley or Max for a registration form. You can register on the evening however it would be easier for everyone to pre register.

Golf Day: The Golf Day is scheduled for Sunday the 13th of February, this should be a great day to be had by all, and further details will be forthcoming closer to the event. Please place this date in your diary. Also see Below.

Track & Field $50.00 October 1st 2004 - March 31st 2005
A separate track fee of $25 must also be paid. Register with Stephanie Sheppard (62471063) or Jo Cherry (62439666)

Results National All Schools Athletics Championships On Wed 8th of December, The Tasmanian State team headed to Sydney for the Championships. Within this team were 14 amazing, brilliant and excited Sandy Bay Athletes. There were 4 days of competition in which the Tassie team excelled. Standout performances by Sandy Bay athletes were Tristan Thomas with 4 Gold & 1 Bronze, Ryan Fosters 2 Gold medals and Sam Keenan's Bronze Medal. Sam also set new state U15 400m and 800m records with times of 51.09 sec and 1.56.65 for the respective events replacing Simon Bird's long standing records. Also Sophie Ireland set a new State record in the 2000m steeple. Many Sandy Bay athletes also finished in the top 10, great efforts. There were many highs, lows, P.Bs, laughs & jokes, making it all in all a great trip. Well done to everyone who competed, you guys were awesome. Big thanks goes to Athletics Tasmania, team managers, parents and of course coaches. - Kim Dutkowski

We will play 4 person Ambrose, so don't worry if you are not very good at golf. As you play from where the best ball lies.
