Bill Dunn 400m Handicap 1991
Bill Dunn was an outstanding junior (under 19) during the 1930's. Upon his death the President of the Club, Mr F.X. Heerey, donated a trophy to perpetuate Bill's memory.
The W.H. Bunn Memorial is a handicap event held over 400 metres. The race was held first in 1939, the winner being Frank Wiseman. Since then the race has been held annually and is one of the most coveted events on the calendar.
The heats of this year's Bill Dunn were held on Sunday, 16th December. They were well contested; no berth in the final was easily won. The final was run the following Thrusday evening. Finalists were, Gary Bissett, Donald Broome, Matthew Clarke, Jason Harris, Aaron George, Daniel Smee, Adrian Johnson, Giles Whitehouse.
The actual final showed the consistency of Scott Hennessy's handicapping as Daniel Smee and Giles Whitehouse fought out a tight finish - the judges' decision going to daniel Smee with Jason Harris (last year's winner) coming thrid. Considering a number of the finalists had come directly from training session and over held were foreign to the 400 metres distance, all performed very well.
