The Bill Dunn Memorial, held on January 18th, was well supported by Sandy Bay men and saw two strong heats of nine competitors front the start line. The first four competitors progressed through to the final, which saw Matt Irons start off go, Tristram Harradine 2 seconds, Chris French and Mark Lyden 4 seconds, David Sutton 5 seconds, Chris May 6 seconds, Jerey Rae 7 seconds and Symon Bird 8 seconds.
Backmarker Symon looked a likely winner with 150m to go, with only a tiring
Tristram Harradine in front of him. However, Tristram was a vastly improved
athlete last season and he dug deep to hold on for a well deserved win. Symon,
who had only gained a berth in the final when Bruce Chetwynd withdrew, ran a
superb time 49.86 to finish second, while Mark Lyden grabbed thrid.
