The 2003 Bill Dunn 400m handicap race was held on Tuesday 25th February at the
Domain Athletic Centre. The event was conducted as a straight final, with nine
starters in the men's race.
The Bill Dunn Memorial saw Peter Frank and Liam Carr-Davies off go, with distance runner James Scarr allocated the back-markers position off nine seconds. James did not find this handicap to his liking and he struggled to make up ground on his younger rivals. For the other eight competitors, the race was extremely close and it was anyone’s race as they entered the home straight. However, it was Michael Sullivan who wanted it the most and he kept the trophy in the household by emulating his brother’s victory in 2002 in holding out Ryan Foster and Peter Frank.
