The Laura Triffett Memorial for Sandy Bay women saw two heats of five competitors line up. Initially, it was intended to have the first three from each heat plue the next fastest progress through to the final. However, after a timing malfunction and lively debate over exatly who should progress through to the final, it was decided that to be fair, all ten girls should go through to the final.
Once again, handicapper Jarrod Shaw, did an excellent job and a very close
final resulted. As with the men's race it was a front maker who finished strongest
after looking "gone" at the home turn. Jessica Lyden, off go, was
about to be swamped with 100m to go but the thought of a free plane flight with
Chris French spurred her on to victory in a time of 68.3 seconds. Angela Parsons
chased strongly but had to settle for second, while the long striding Mandy
Westbrook stormed home for third.
