Laura Triffett 400m Handicap 1997
The Laura Triffett handicaps were held on March 20th on the newly opened track. It was disappointing that there were only three entrants in the Laura Triffitt race for women.
The Laura Trffitt 400 metres handicap attracted only 3 competitors so it was decided that it would be run with the first heat of the men's race. The race lacked quantity but made up for this in quality. For the second year in a row Jessica Lyden took out the event with newly crowned 1500m champion Mandy Giblin second and national junior medallist Emily Bell thrid. It is rare for an athlete to be able to win 2 years in a row but Jessica was able to pull out a huge p.b.(65.8) to achieve this. Mandy ran an actual time of 59.1 and Emily ran 57.3 which were also close to personal bests.
