The 2001 Laura Triffett 400m handicap race was held on Tuesday 13th March at the Domain Athletic Centre.
The woman's event was again conducted as a straight out final, with five starters lining up. The race saw one of the closest finishes in many years, with less than two seconds separating first to fifth. Back marker Chloe Merry stormed home in the final 100m to record an excellent time of 60.19 but was unable to overhaul Alex Cashion, who went to record her first win in the event. Madeline Struwe finished 3rd, just ahead of training partner Cassandra Smith, with last years wimmer Aimee Tatnell 5th.
