The 2005 Laura Triffett 400m handicap race was held
on Tuesday 8th March at the Domain Athletic Centre. The event was conducted
as a straight final, with seven starters in the women's race.
The Laura Triffett Memorial race was thrown wide open with the late withdrawal of two time winner Kim Dutkowski. The handicaps saw another former winner in Cassandra Smith given the front markers position, with Anneliese Hunt conceding nine seconds from the back mark. With 200m to go, Cassandra appeared to have a winning break but she tied up in the face of a strong headwind around the bend, allowing Sophie Ireland to storm home and claim victory. Sophie’s time of 64.83 represented a five second season’s best, whilst Anneliese’s time of 61.04 was also two seconds up on her best for the season.
